German footballer Marc-André ter Stegen , goalkeeper for FC Barcelona , has said that "the decision" to undergo back surgery "was made after consulting with medical professionals" and that it "was fully approved" by the Blaugrana club, and he has advocated resolving his conflict "constructively" through "dialogue and responsibility."
"These past few months have been particularly difficult for me, both physically and personally. Like any player, after suffering an injury, my only priority has always been to get back on the pitch as soon as possible, motivated solely by the desire to help the team and do what I love most: competing," Ter Stegen posted on his Instagram this Friday.
"In recent weeks, many things have been said about me, some of them completely unfounded . Therefore, I feel it is necessary to express my version of events with respect, but clearly," said the German goalkeeper, who recently had disciplinary proceedings opened against him by Barça and stripped of both his captaincy and shirt number.
"The decision to undergo surgery was made after consulting with medical professionals and was fully approved by the club, always with the intention of prioritizing my health and my long-term sporting career, objectives that are of course completely aligned with those of FC Barcelona, with the aim of being available as soon as possible to continue fighting for titles," Ter Stegen explained on his social media.
He then elaborated on his argument. "Furthermore, I publicly announced the minimum recovery period I would need, which was communicated to me by the most reputable experts and always in coordination with the club," he asserted regarding Barça's approach to his back surgery .
"I would like to make it clear - following certain speculation - that all of the club's signings and contract renewals were carried out before my surgery , so at no point could I have considered that my unfortunate situation, with the new operation I had to undergo , was necessary for the registration of other teammates whom I deeply respect and with whom I look forward to sharing a dressing room for many seasons to come. Any other interpretation seems both unfair and inaccurate to me," he said.

"Throughout my career, I have always tried to conduct myself with professionalism, respect, and commitment to the emblems I have represented. I have a deep affection for FC Barcelona, this city, and its people, who have supported me for so many years. My commitment to these colors remains total ," the German goalkeeper emphasized.
"I understand that difficult times can generate tension, but I am confident that, through dialogue and responsibility , we can resolve this situation constructively. I am fully prepared to work with the club's management to resolve this matter and facilitate the required authorization ," he extended his hand.
Finally, Ter Stegen made an appeal to Barça fans amidst so much speculation about his role, that of president Joan Laporta, and sporting director Deco. "Many things can change, but there's one thing that never will: I love you, culers !" the German player concluded.
